Commercial & Miscellaneous Metals
Security gates, dumpster enclosures, bollards, support frames, roof ladders and the miscellaneous steel nobody else wants to price.
Miscellaneous metals is the category on a commercial project that everybody needs and nobody wants: gates, bollards, ladders, support frames, sign steel, pergola steel, the assorted items that do not belong to any other trade.
Set Apart Metal Works bids and delivers these scopes — reviewing plans, defining what is and is not included, and stating exclusions clearly, so a general contractor knows exactly where the line is before anyone is on site.
The exclusions are the useful part. Engineering, permits, concrete, electrical, carpentry, masonry, roofing and painting are excluded unless a quote specifically includes them, and that is written down rather than discovered later.
The Problems This Solves
If you recognize your own broken thing in this list, you are in the right place.
Gates that have racked out of square
Once a gate frame twists, the latch is a symptom. Squaring and reinforcing the frame is what makes it close again.
Building corners taking repeated impact
Bollards set where vehicles actually strike, rather than where a drawing guessed they would.
Equipment with nothing to sit on
Water heaters, condensers and plant needing purpose-built steel support frames to the loads and mounting the project defines.
Punch-list steel nobody priced
The items that surface at the end of a job. Small, awkward, and the reason a fabricator who answers the phone is worth having.
Scope of Work

Not included: Engineering, permits, concrete, electrical, carpentry, masonry, roofing and painting are excluded unless a quote specifically includes them. Set Apart Metal Works will not represent an engineered or code-certified scope without the engineering behind it, and the Tennessee contractor license threshold is checked before taking a qualifying project.

About Commercial & Misc. Metals
Do you bid from plans?
Yes. Plan review, scope definition, stated exclusions and commercial estimating are part of how these jobs are quoted. Send the drawings and the bid documents to Tyler by email.
What is excluded from a typical quote?
Engineering, permits, concrete, electrical, carpentry, masonry, roofing and painting, unless the quote specifically includes them. Access, field dimensions, material responsibility, lifting equipment and site readiness are confirmed before the work is scheduled.
Can you handle a larger steel package?
Tyler has used subcontractors and can build crew capacity for larger scopes. The website will not pretend to permanent staffing that does not exist — if a package needs more people than that, he will say so.
How do deposits and change orders work?
A deposit is only required when materials have to be ordered specifically for the project; it covers that order before fabrication or scheduling begins. Otherwise: a deposit gets materials on the way and secures a place on the schedule. If hidden conditions or added scope appear, that is raised before the work happens, and depending on the project a written change order or additional deposit may be required.
